We are looking for a full-time night shift care assistant to join our team at Rosturk House in Cupar.

Schedule

  • 2 or 3 × 12-hour shifts (19:45 – 08:00) per week on a rotating 7-day rota

Pay

£12.70 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Assist/support residents with all aspects of personal care in accordance with individual needs, adopting the role of key worker and carer
  • Assist/support residents in all aspects of care needs—physical, emotional, social, and spiritual—ensuring comfort and dignity are maintained
  • Promote equality, individuality, confidentiality, privacy, choice, and residents’ rights at all times
  • Enable residents to contribute to their own personal care plan
  • Support residents in maintaining social contact with family and friends and accessing available services and information
  • Participate in group or one-to-one activities to promote therapeutic, meaningful recreation
  • Assist in the promotion of continence
  • Assist residents with individual dietary requirements, respecting preferences, special diets, and cultural needs; serve food and drink; clean/wash up as required; record dietary/fluid intake/output as instructed
  • Assist in the delivery of end-of-life care and with last offices, ensuring full privacy and dignity for the dying and bereaved
  • Answer call systems, doors, and telephones; respond and relay messages promptly
  • Under supervision, report on residents’ well-being and carry out regular checks at intervals set by senior staff
  • Observe care planning needs and complete written daily records in line with company policies and procedures
  • Ensure correct use of equipment (e.g., hoists, wheelchairs) and participate in safety checks and cleaning of equipment, including hearing aids and spectacles
  • Dispose of waste according to company policies and procedures
  • Escort residents to healthcare appointments and social events as required
  • Welcome visitors and provide refreshments when needed
  • Practice integrity in all dealings with residents’ personal and financial affairs; report any concerns of abuse promptly
  • Participate in staff and residents’ meetings and day-to-day communication
  • Contribute to health, safety, and security for all residents and colleagues; maintain a clean, tidy, hazard-free environment
  • Implement the company’s health and safety policy and emergency/fire procedures; adhere to infection control policies and report infectious illnesses immediately
  • Report faulty appliances, equipment, furniture, or potential hazards to the home manager or person in charge
  • Report any accidents incurred by residents, self, or others
  • Keep all resident information confidential and notify the home manager promptly of any inability to report for duty
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures within defined time scales
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks assigned

Requirements

Essential

  • Genuine interest in working within care of the elderly
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Willingness to attend mandatory and vocational training programmes

Desired

  • SVQ Level II or III (or working towards minimum SVQ Level II)
  • Experience working with elderly persons in a care setting

Training and Development

  • Participate in supervision sessions and personal development, acquiring new skills and ongoing training
  • Maintain professional knowledge and competence
  • Attend mandatory training days/courses on or off site
  • Participate in relevant SVQ training to achieve required qualifications
  • Register and conduct working practices with the Scottish Social Services Codes of Practice within 6 months of starting
