About the Role
The Regional Patient Access Manager (RPAM) is responsible for three main functions:
- Provide field access support services and education to Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) to maximize patient access to Company products and accelerate time to treatment.
- Communicate with Specialty Pharmacies (SPs), Closed Door Pharmacies (CDPs) – including Genoa – and Patient-Physician Services (HUB partner) in support of Neurocrine Biosciences marketed products in the U.S.
- Build and uphold the integrity of Neurocrine Biosciences' pharmacy distribution network by conducting vetting activities within an assigned geography, including communication of approval, denial, or removal from the network.
The RPAM will serve as a subject matter expert on regional and national payer coverage policies and processes, working cross-functionally with field sales, network pharmacies, market access, commercial analytics, and operations. The role also involves ensuring the distribution network operates at high levels of effectiveness by utilizing end-user feedback, monitoring processes, and proposing new workflow strategies.
Responsibilities
- Build and sustain relationships with pharmacies, physicians, their office staff, and other HCPs to resolve coverage problems for written prescriptions already in process.
- Work cross-functionally with field sales leadership (Regional Sales Managers, Account Specialists, National Account Directors), network pharmacies, and home office colleagues to support patient access with specific payers.
- Provide training and education to HCPs on payer-specific coverage policies, documentation requirements, appeals processes, and patient financial assistance programs, including copay assistance and patient assistance programs.
- Introduce technology options (e.g., CoverMyMeds) for electronic Patient Access (PA) submission, explain payer criteria, forms, processes, appeals, step edits, and formulary exception requests.
- Problem-solve and conduct case resolution for coverage and access issues.
- Communicate effectively and compliantly with field sales, corporate employees, HCPs, network pharmacies, and HUB employees to identify and resolve coverage and patient access issues.
- Identify and communicate payer issues with the National Account Directors (NAD) team.
- Interface with local closed-door and LTC pharmacies to provide support services and education.
- Communicate opportunities and challenges related to patient access issues to management.
- Present insights into payer coverage policies and processes at internal business reviews and national/regional sales meetings.
- Conduct Patient Access workshops during POA meetings and assist with new hire training as needed.
- Ensure a diverse and inclusive environment free from discrimination and harassment.
- Build and uphold the company’s pharmacy distribution network through vetting processes, maintaining integrity, and monitoring pharmacy operations.

Requirements
- BS/BA degree in a related field and 6+ years of pharma/biotech commercial experience, with 2+ years in specialty pharmacy/market access. Specialty product experience, preferably in CNS.
- OR Master’s degree or MBA and 4+ years of related experience.
- OR PharmD or PhD and 2+ years of related experience.
- Strong understanding of specialty pharmacies, managed care, pharmacy benefit managers, and government payers and their impact on product access.
- Excellent working knowledge of patient support programs, including reimbursement support and financial assistance adherence programs.
- Strong understanding of the prescription adjudication process.
- Ability to communicate payer coverage criteria and prior authorization processes.
- Previous experience in other pharma/biotech functions (e.g., sales, management, marketing, managed markets) is desired.
- Good understanding of current issues within the pharmaceutical industry and national healthcare system.
- Ability to travel overnight up to 60% (travel includes working with field sales, attending business meetings, industry meetings, and working with key customers).
- Knowledge of best practices in the functional discipline and familiarity with related business concepts.

Pay
The annual base salary range for this role is $151,000–$206,000. Individual pay decisions depend on factors such as primary work location, role complexity, job duties, and relevant experience and skills. This position also offers an annual bonus with a target of 30% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in an equity-based long-term incentive program.
