Neuro Special Procedures Technologist

At Banner University Medical Center - Phoenix, joining our Medical Imaging team means becoming part of one of the most advanced, high-acuity imaging environments in the region, within a 730-bed academic medical center and Level 1 Trauma and Comprehensive Stroke Center. You’ll be at the forefront of advanced neurovascular and interventional radiology care, working alongside leading specialists in a high-acuity, high-performance environment. This role directly impacts patient outcomes in critical moments.

Responsibilities

• Perform specialized high-acuity neuro-interventional radiographic procedures including mechanical thrombectomy, arteriovenous malformations, angioplasty, and coil embolization in accordance with departmental protocols.
• Prepare patients and work area, review cases for appropriate supplies, and anticipate physician needs by passing wires, catheters, and specialized neuro devices.
• Operate and troubleshoot C-arms and imaging equipment while maintaining aseptic technique and radiation safety standards.
• Educate patients and families, administer radiopharmaceuticals and approved medications, produce high-quality diagnostic images, and maintain accurate documentation.
• Respond independently to interventional radiology and neuro call backs while ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
• Perform radiographic diagnostic/interventional special procedures by following and verifying referring providers’ orders using independent judgment.
• Demonstrate professional behavior/conduct in all interactions; foster teamwork, efficient use of resources, and quality patient outcomes.
• Produce high-quality images and prepare/present them with pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
• Demonstrate competence in performing prescribed invasive/interventional procedures such as intra-arterial thrombolysis, brain/head/neck/orbit/spine arteriovenous fistulas and malformations, carotid/vertebral/intracranial angioplasty, coil embolization, balloon-assisted coil embolization, and cerebral/spinal angiography.
• Demonstrate competency in neuro-interventional radiology procedures and administration of radiopharmaceuticals and other approved medications.
• Perform and evaluate equipment quality control measurements; operate and troubleshoot C-arms within OR suites.
• Maintain a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors; adhere to radiation safety policies.
• Monitor and maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure non-interruption of services.

Requirements

• Certificate or diploma from an approved/accredited Radiologic Technology program.
• Demonstrated competency in neuro-interventional radiology procedures such as mechanical thrombectomy, intra-arterial thrombolysis, brain/head/neck/orbit/spine AVF/AVM, carotid/vertebral/intracranial angioplasty, coil embolization, balloon-assisted coil embolization, and cerebral/spinal angiography.
• National certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and licensure by state regulatory agency if applicable.
• Advance certification by accrediting body in specialty required within 18 months of hire (or equivalent clinical experience for Cath Lab only).
• BLS certification.
• Clinical knowledge typically achieved with two years of experience.
• Effective communication skills, human relations skills, ability to analyze data and solve problems.
