About the role
The Municipal Associate position at Burke, Williams & Sorensen is for an attorney with 5–7 years of transactional municipal experience.
Responsibilities
- Draft and negotiate public works contracts, professional services agreements, development agreements, joint powers agreements, and other municipal transactional documents
- Advising public agency clients regarding compliance with public contracting requirements, open meeting laws, conflict of interest regulations, and related statutory frameworks
- Prepare staff reports, resolutions, ordinances, and related agenda materials
- Attend and present at city council, board, and commission meetings as needed
- Aid in procurement processes, including drafting and reviewing Request for Proposals (RFPs) and bid documents
- Collaborate with colleagues across practice areas on matters involving land use, real estate, infrastructure, and regulatory compliance
Requirements
- Significant experience advising public agency clients on transactional matters
- Excellent writing, research, drafting, and analytical skills
- Strong work ethic, self-starter, and team-oriented mindset
- Ability to manage matters independently and interface directly with public officials and staff
- Admission to the State Bar of California
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5–7 years of transactional municipal experience
- Admission to the State Bar of California

Pay
The anticipated base salary range for this full-time role is $170,000 – $206,000 plus annual performance-based bonuses. The actual salary within that range will depend on the selected candidate’s years of practice and experience.
