About the role

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is seeking an MTA Special Police Officer (MTASPO) to join their team. The MTASPO is responsible for conducting security patrols and monitoring across various MTA transit system modes, facilities, and properties.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol transit facilities and maintain visible security presence
  • Maintain a safe environment by observing and promptly reporting criminal activity, threats, disturbances, and hazardous conditions
  • Aid sworn MTA Police Force (MTAPF) Officers during calls for service
  • Support special events, seasonal operations, and surge deployments
  • Attend required trainings, briefings, and administrative meetings
  • Respond to emergencies and assist in crisis situations
  • Operate police equipment such as body worn cameras, handheld devices, portable two-way radio communication systems, fare enforcement tools, and electronic fare verification devices
  • Provide customer assistance and public engagement in accordance with MTA and MTA Police Force standards
  • Conduct fare enforcement support activities

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate or a General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Experience: One (1) year of experience performing the duties at the MTA Special Police Officer Trainee level
  • Licenses & Certifications: Must possess and maintain Maryland State Police Special Police Officer Certification
