MTA Lateral Police Officer

About the role

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is recruiting for MTA Lateral Police Officers to join its existing force serving MTA Bus, Metro, Light Rail, and MARC Train/Commuter Bus systems. The position is open only to individuals with current certification as a Police Officer from the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission (MPTSC).

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
• Must be of good moral character/reputation and emotionally stable as determined by comprehensive background investigation.
• Physically able to perform the essential functions of the job as determined by medical examination.
• Pass drug and alcohol screening.
• Pass physical agility testing.
• Successfully meet the requirements of minimum standards of training as mandated by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission.
• Adhere to all safety rules, policies, regulations, and personal protective equipment requirements to support a safe and healthy working environment.
• Attend and participate in safety meetings.
• Report hazards, unsafe acts, near misses, injuries, and accidents immediately to the Office of Safety and supervision.
• Work 40 hours per week and be able to work variable shifts, evenings, holidays, and weekends based on the needs of the Maryland Transit Administration.

Requirements

• Age/Citizenship: At least 21 years of age and a citizen of the United States.
• Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate recognized by the State of Maryland.
• Licenses & Certifications: Valid driver's license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of Maryland, current Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission (MPTSC) certification.

Qualifications

• Must pass an oral interview.
• Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, including work history and criminal records check, polygraph examination, and psychological evaluation.
• Must pass drug and alcohol screening.
• Must successfully meet the requirements of minimum standards of training as mandated by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission.
• Must adhere to all safety rules, policies, regulations, and personal protective equipment requirements to support a safe and healthy working environment.
• May be subject to pre-employment drug testing and substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations 49-Federal Department of Transportation Drug Alcohol Testing Protocols and Federal Transit Administration Alcohol Testing Rules, and Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

Pay

The credited salary ranges up to (9) years of service starting at $77,150 to $103,518.

Employees in this classification are subject to variable shifts, evenings, holidays, and weekends based on the needs of the Maryland Transit Administration.
