About the role

Machine Operator I in the McWane Plant and Industrial (MPI) Job Shop Fabrication and Machining operation is responsible for measuring, threading, adjusting flange fit, and facing flanges on ductile or steel pipe. The operator uses manual machine tools such as lathes and threaders, operates machines and cranes to move pipe, and ensures work meets quality and production objectives.

Responsibilities

• Ensure personal safety and the safety of team members; assist supervisors in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
• Wear appropriate PPE (fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head, and eye protection).
• Maintain cleanliness of the assigned work area and promote a safe, clean environment.
• Proactively promote the McWane Way principles and follow all processes of the Clear Water Safety Management Program; advise management of any deviations.
• Identify fabrication requirements for each piece of pipe.
• Place pipe in machine, center the pipe, and tighten for work.
• Machine tapered threads into the pipe and verify measurements such as thread depth and correct taper.
• Test the flange to ensure it screws onto the pipe properly.
• Apply glue on pipe and flange and use the machine to tighten the flange onto the pipe.
• For threaders: remove pipe from machine and move to the next processing operation.
• For lathes: run the cutting tool across the face of the flange to flush‑fit the flange onto the pipe.
• Work with pipe and flanges ranging from 3″ to 6″ in diameter and lengths from 4 inches to 18 feet.
• Maintain proficiency with quality standards and meet prescribed production output objectives.
• Demonstrate good math skills, ability to read a tape measure and micrometer.
• Understand machinery processes.
• Maintain consistent attendance and arrive on time every day.
• Be a team player, willing to work when needed, help, and volunteer across various machines.
• Exhibit a positive, enthusiastic, and helpful attitude.

Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Communicate verbally and in writing in English.
• Occasionally reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Regularly lift/move up to 10 lb, frequently lift/move up to 25 lb, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 lb.
