Machine Operator I

About the role

Performs a variety of set up and operation duties to prepare and construct foam sub-components and inserts to fit and cushion any container configurations and sizes and makes self-inspections. Works from engineering prints, email drawings, Bill of Materials, assembly drawings, written and/or verbal instructions.

• Plans sequence of operations; and maximizes stock usage for a variety of first time and repeat requirements.
• Understanding of dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Ability to read and interpret 2D prints and 3D models.
• Selects stock and cuts sheet stock to proper dimensions and tolerances.
• Operates and performs daily operator maintenance of foam processing and machining equipment including but not limited to Slabber, Convoluter, Die Press, Thermal Bonder, Apex Routers, and Water Jets.
• Stacks, packs, seals labels materials for palletization.
• Removes and processes foam scrap as required.
• Uses computer network to bring up file at machine center.
• Sets adjustments, pressures, etc. according to charts, tables for foam type and dimensions.
• Operates equipment to obtain proper cuts and pieces.
• Checks parts for acceptance.
• Makes first piece inspection.
• Resolves and/or brings to attention of group leader, supervisor cut file problems and to attention of cut file programmer.
• Performs in process inspection of product.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
• Must have the ability to complete assignments within the timeframe specified by the Manager.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
