About the role

Collins Aerospace in Spokane, WA is hiring for a motivated entry-level Machine Shop Operator I in our Machine Shop. You will learn and be responsible for the set-up, calibration, and operation of machines used in the production process. Training is provided on the job. The Machine Shop ensures features are cut into densified carbon material from Furnace Deck. This highly complex process requires operators to have sound math skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a mechanically inclined mind. Physical work is present but less demanding than some departments. This stage of the process requires operators to operate large machines and perform tasks assigned for quality control and data integrity within digital systems.

Schedule

  • Rotating 4-on/4-off shift structure (6 months off every year)
  • Rotating day/night shift every 6 weeks
  • 12-hour shifts: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM / 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM

Pay

  • Starting pay: $20.50/hour
  • $2.25 shift differential
  • 208 hours of built-in overtime per year
  • Total annual compensation starting at $50,000 per year
  • Built-in, guaranteed overtime with “free” hours on non-overtime weeks

Responsibilities

  • Set up CNC machines and run parts (training provided)
  • Follow a weekly Preventative Maintenance process
  • Adhere to applicable instructions (WI, SOP, Reference documents)
  • Use precision gauging tools (including CMM) and verify gauge calibration (micrometers, calipers, drills, inserts, etc.)
  • Identify and document out-of-spec conditions
  • Complete daily machine inspections and calibration verification
  • Follow First Piece Inspection procedure, tools, inserts, and their functions
  • Adhere to all safety policies (Collins Aerospace Cardinal Rules)
  • Participate in 5S/continuous improvement processes (ACE)
  • Observe and follow all environmental, health, and safety procedures
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Adhere to all engineering instructions, standard operation procedures, and departmental procedures
  • Prioritize tasks under constantly changing conditions where ingenuity and judgment are required

What You Will Learn

  • Knowledge of pertinent customer and company specifications, including international standards for carbon-carbon brake components and company policies
  • Set up CNC machines and run parts
  • Use forklifts and pallet jacks
  • Operate manual and automated riveters
  • Use scales, calipers, and micrometers
  • Use bar code scanning equipment
  • Operate various tools (mixes, hotplates, etc.)
  • Operate automated oxidation coating stations and oxidation bake-out ovens
  • Operate power and pneumatic equipment

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here
  • Manufacturing or similar industry-related experience

  • Experience with G&M codes, Macro programming, and editing processes
