Motor Vehicle Operator

Required Qualifications

• Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid Class B NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Participate in the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (drug and alcohol testing) as required.
• Motor vehicle record free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.
• Working knowledge of simple automotive repair and maintenance procedures.
• Working knowledge of routes to specific locations normally visited.

Brief Description of Duties

• Drive any of a variety of motor vehicles including automobiles, buses, trucks, and ambulances.
• Transport people, material, and equipment as required.
• Post manifests and other records of goods and people transported.
• Drive Mobile Dental Clinic to host sites.
• Plan routes to specific locations and estimate time required to reach the locations.
• Perform routine maintenance on vehicles operated.
• Communicate orally for the purpose of exchanging information.

Special Notes

• This is a temporary part-time position, 16 hours per week, shifts varied, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
• FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
• Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
• Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference.
• Hiring Rate $22.62 per hour.

• Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook University's Employee Health Services.
• Clear a background investigation.
• Submit (3) written references.
• Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
