Duties & Responsibilities
- Operates one or more types of motor vehicles such as passenger car, shuttle bus, truck, forklift, or tractor-trailer truck.
- Drives a truck carrying employees and material to and from work location.
- Acts as a chauffeur to an official.
- Checks the tires, oil and fuel of the vehicle, and checks vehicle to see that lights, horn and brakes appear to be operating properly. Replenishes fluids as needed.
- Reports and noticeable mechanical defects in the vehicle.
- Cleans the windows and interior and exterior of vehicle.
- Changes tires or wheels.
- Assists in loading and unloading of materials, equipment, and passengers.
- Reports any accidents in which the vehicle may have been involved.
- Operates motor equipment mounted on, or transported by, the vehicle.
- Watches for traffic hazards while labor force is engaged in making emergency repairs.
- Transports collectors and cases of coin boxes to and from collection areas.
- Is responsible for tools, supplies, materials, and equipment carried in or on the assigned vehicle.
- Prepares trip reports.
- In a garage/fleet, may dispatch personnel, motor vehicles and equipment.
- Performs related work.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York which must be maintained for the duration of employment.
- For appointment to certain positions, candidates must possess either a Class A, B, or C Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York with passenger endorsement and no restrictions on the number of passengers, or with no airbrake restriction.
- All Motor Vehicle Operators with a Commercial Driver License are subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, and incumbents with a Commercial Driver License will be subjected to random drug and/or alcohol testing.
Department Preferences
- Educational Level: High School Diploma/GED
- Licenses: Class B CDL Driver's License w/ Air Brakes
- Years of Experience: Three (3) Years of Driving Delivery Experience
- Special Equipment/Machines Operated: Refrigerated Truck, Truck Bars, Hand Carts, Push Carts, Dinex Retherming Carts, Transport Trip Totes, misc. as directed etc.
- Knowledge and Skills: Basic Knowledge of Food Delivery with regards to transporting Food under refrigeration guidelines, Experience as a Motor Vehicle Operator making deliveries, Experience in Delivery work using Truck Refrigeration, Ability to work in a team environment with a positive attitude, Must be able to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds unassisted, Must be able to work in refrigerated area for 20 mins at a time or longer
