About the role
The North Carolina Department of Revenue is seeking a Tax Auditor Supervisor for the Motor Fuels Section of the Examination Division. This position is based out of Charlotte.
Responsibilities
- Maintain oversight of a team's overall audit program
- Conduct independent examinations of financial records of taxpayers not in voluntary compliance
- Ensure the management of staff
- Interact with other departmental personnel by providing technical and professional knowledge
- Determine violations and non-compliance with tax laws, rules, and regulations
- Detect and explain significant irregularities concerning tax matters
Requirements
- Thorough, broad knowledge of the provisions of the Revenue Act, tax schedules, accounting principles, and auditing techniques and methodologies
- Experience auditing motor fuels and motor carriers
- Experience planning, organizing, directing, and reviewing the work of employees in multiple, remote locations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Accounting or related field with at least twelve semester hours of accounting from an appropriately accredited institution
- Two years of experience as a Revenue Tax Auditor I
- An equivalent combination of education and experience
Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
- Knowledge of auditing techniques and methodologies
- Ability to determine violations and non-compliance with tax laws, rules, and regulations
- Ability to detect and explain significant irregularities concerning tax matters

- Average salary range: $60,881 - $106,544

Pay
The starting salary range for this position is $60,881 - $106,544, effective July 1, 2025.
