MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY OFFICER I - HIGHWAYS (HAWAII ISLAND)

The Department of Transportation - Highways, State of Hawaii is recruiting for a Motor Carrier Safety Officer I position.

Duties Summary

• Enforce laws related to commercial vehicles including regulations relating to vehicle registration, safety, and vehicle weight limits.
• Conduct investigations, inspections, and compliance surveys.
• Perform formal and on-the-job training on motor carrier safety rules and regulations, inspection practices, and accident investigation techniques.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

• Legal Authorization to Work: Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
• General Experience: One (1) year of work experience which demonstrated knowledge of arithmetic, including multiplication and division; the ability to read, understand, and explain rules and regulations; conduct inspections or investigations to check for noncompliance with laws, rules, and regulations; follow verbal and written instructions; and prepare clear, concise reports.
• Lifting Requirement: Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds assisted by another person and/or use of equipment (e.g. hoisting equipment, hand truck).

• Driver's License Requirement: Valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
• State's Measuremaster License: Possession of a valid State's Measuremaster License or ability to obtain such license within the 6-month probationary period.
