Motherly Head of Brand Partnerships / Executive Director
Founded in 2015, Motherly has been a destination for people on their pregnancy journey, first-time moms, and everything in between. In 2025, Motherly joined the ParentsTogether Media Network with a mission to inform, entertain, and engage Gen Z and millennial parents so that all parents and families thrive. The Executive Director, Brand Partnerships will play a defining role in this next chapter, helping shape what cultural parenting media at scale looks like in this moment. Our strategy framework is based on lean startup principles: we try out ideas quickly, see what works, and iterate. We work collaboratively to solve challenges together, and we drive impact on high-stakes issues in a positive, low-ego, low-drama work environment.
About the Role
We're looking for an entrepreneurial, idea-first seller who is excited to transform Motherly's mission into multi-format, cross-platform content that reaches Gen Z and millennial parents at scale. The Senior Director, Brand Partnerships (Retail + CPG Food/Bev + Finance) will work to develop new and existing client relationships, identify paid brand partnership opportunities, and work with a support team to build and execute strategic, multi-platform proposals and campaigns. This is a player/coach role reporting into the CEO — you'll build your own decks, plans, and pitches, and own the opportunity to build a book of business from the ground up.
Responsibilities
- Drive revenue growth by selling advertising and branded content (social-first video, IG placements, custom podcasts, etc.) with a focus on new business generation and top-tier account relationships.
- Collaborate with the CEO and leadership to design and execute revenue strategies, go-to-market plans, and product development.
- Create sales and marketing collateral and decks, with a deep understanding of insight-based pitching.
- Lead and coach the sales team with hands-on mentorship, driving them to personal growth and revenue success.
- Build and optimize our revenue operations in partnership with the CEO, including pipeline management, forecasting, CRM hygiene, and performance reporting.
- Manage the sales process from prospecting through to campaign completion.
- Manage a healthy book of business with autonomy and against a defined P&L.
- Leverage relationships at brands and agencies across the categories, with a focus on CPG + Finance.
- Maintain sales goals and weekly activity by consistently developing/refining sales strategies and be a driving force on the Motherly team.
First 90 Days
- An updated GP with revised brand positioning and product packaging.
- Sellers all nailing revised pitch.
- New prospect list by category with relevant content strategy.
What We Expect in the First 90 Days
Selling & Pipeline
- Ramped to 3+ external client/agency meetings per week.
- Started receiving active RFPs and inbound briefs from your target categories (Retail, CPG Food/Bev, Finance).
- Built and be actively pushing a qualified pipeline through the funnel — prospecting, pitch, proposal, close.
- Closed a first deal, or have one far enough along that it's close.
Team Leadership
- Defined a go-forward strategy with each seller individually, tailored to their book, their categories, and where they're strongest.
- Actively coaching the full sales team — not just check-ins, but hands-on in their deals: joining client meetings with them where it moves a larger deal forward, sharpening their pitch and negotiation approach.
- Set a cadence of in-person meetings with your sellers on a quarterly basis.
- Established yourself as a revenue leader across the org — the person both the sales team and cross-functional partners know they can go to and rely on.
Revenue Operations & Quality Control
- Put a review process in place so all media plans and pricing are checked before they go out the door.
- Started weekly negotiation guidance with sellers, holding the line on rate cards and deal minimums.
- Taken ownership of deck and proposal quality across the team, looping in external sales/marketing support when the work calls for it.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Established a strong working cadence with the CEO — bringing visibility into pipeline, strategy, and deal risk rather than waiting to be asked.
- Built a direct partnership with the Head of Content, shaping content moments and franchises that are sellable from the start, not retrofitted after the fact.
Qualifications
- 10+ years experience in digital media sales with experience leading teams.
- Proven track record of consistently exceeding sales targets and generating new business.
- Experience managing a small-to-mid-sized sales/account management team, with a demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and empower.
- An entrepreneurial spirit and a proven track record as a builder — someone who's grown new business, new accounts, or new products from the ground up, and thrives on that kind of ownership.
- Experience selling customized campaigns across platforms with a focus on social-first video, podcasts, creator collaborations, and events.
- Deep understanding of video as a sales product — how to position it, price it, sell it in, and creatively execute it from concept to delivery.
- Extensive contacts in digital media including decision-makers at brands.
- Familiarity and strong enthusiasm for the brand, content verticals, and products and the utility we offer to our audience.
- Understanding of and empathy for the experiences of parents and caregivers; prior experience in parenting, lifestyle, or women-focused media is a plus.
- Strong communication skills, including clear written and verbal communication, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
- A willingness to travel as required for client meetings and industry events.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- You've built and closed new business from scratch, bringing in accounts and categories that didn't exist on the roster before.
- You've sold in brands as the launch partners for new social video franchises, live events, or other original IP.
- You have the ability to create your own proposal decks and strategic plans independently, with minimal hand-holding, when necessary.
- Your pipeline and client list reflect real relationship equity you've built and carried across categories or platforms.
- You’re a creative, idea-first seller who pitches concepts and IP rather than impressions — someone who thinks beyond the standard media plan.
