Mortgage Loan Processor

About the Role

The Mortgage Processor reviews and verifies borrower documentation, organizes loan files, and prepares fully documented packages for underwriting with high accuracy and minimal conditions. The role focuses on pipeline management, member support, quality control, and timely file movement to ensure loans progress smoothly from application to closing.

Responsibilities

• Validate application data for completeness, accuracy, and eligibility across income, assets, employment, and credit requirements (40%)
• Prepare and submit fully documented loan files for underwriting through automated and manual review workflows (40%)
• Verify borrower information directly with employers, credit agencies, and third-party data sources using digital verification tools (10%)
• Recommend workflow, automation, and policy improvements to enhance processing speed and accuracy (10%)

Performance Measurements

• Comply with government and other regulations affecting the credit union industry, including OFAC and the Bank Secrecy Act
• Meet or exceed performance expectations as described in Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Qualifications

• One to three years of similar or related experience
• Education requirements:
  • A two-year college degree, or
  • Completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or
  • Completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or
  • Job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program

Skills

• Strong interpersonal skills for conflict resolution, relationship building, and soliciting cooperation
• Ability to handle confidential information with diplomacy and tact
• Proficiency in using office equipment (keyboard, computer, calculator, fax machine, copier, telephone)
• Ability to read and understand financial statements, contracts, applications, and related materials
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle controls; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, or kneel. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Work is performed indoors in an office environment with normal potential for exposure to safety and health hazards. May periodically travel to other similar sites. The noise level is usually moderate.
