Responsibilities
- Record electrocardiograms (EKGs) of customers ranging in age from newborn to geriatric
- Ensure EKGs are transmitted from cart to MUSE EKG Computer System using patient identifiers
- Place telemetry transmitter packs and communicate with monitor technician for verification of signal
- Deliver cardiac rhythm strips from the Cardiac monitoring station to various nursing units and post these strips in specified unit locations during periods of medical record downtime
- Perform miscellaneous duties related to cardiac monitoring, including:
- Troubleshooting telemetry transmitter packs (e.g., replacing worn electrodes, changing batteries, changing wires)
- Assisting in the search and retrieval of misplaced telemetry transmitter packs and cardiac pacemakers
- Understand the hospital strategic plan within the scope of EKG technician expectation and role
- Interpret and follow Physicians’ orders
- Triage workload and complete tasks accordingly
- Represent Cardio-Respiratory Services in support of the ideals and principles of the department and organizational culture
- Exemplify Albany Med CARES guiding principles
- Assist, as needed, in the onboarding of new staff and conduct department orientation
- Understand and promote Patient and Employee Safety as the number one priority
- Promote a safe environment for patients and staff
- Understand the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals as they pertain to the EKG technician role
Requirements
- High School Diploma/G.E.D. - required
- 1-3 years of patient experience - preferred
- Honest, punctual, and performs the job in adherence to the highest standards of ethical conduct as defined by Albany Med and the tenets of the profession
- Ability to communicate cooperatively and effectively with patients, family members, employees, and others
- Ability to read documents such as requisitions
- Ability to document on established forms and in the EMR
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire - required
- Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
