Monitor Technician I

About the role
Directly monitor patient cardiac rhythm and oxygen saturation via a remote monitoring system. Enter patient data into the monitoring system, respond to alarms, identify changes in patient status, and report to the appropriate RN in a timely manner. Serve as a preceptor for other Monitor Tech I staff and assist in problem-solving and critical thinking.

- Assist in providing quality patient care by monitoring clinical data, entering orders, and troubleshooting the monitoring system.
- Demonstrate competence in recognizing cardiac rhythms and changes in patient status, taking appropriate action.
- Provide rhythm strips for patient charts, upload them into records, and document required information (interpretation, heart rate, PQRS measurements, O₂ saturation).

- Establish and maintain positive relationships within the monitor tech department and clinical care teams.
- Stay informed about unit and organizational initiatives by attending or reviewing meeting minutes.

- Participate in performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.
- Assist with the orientation of new monitor techs and ensure efficient use of supplies and equipment.
- Prioritize workload to meet patient and unit needs effectively.
- Use clear and concise communication (electronic, verbal, written, and interpersonal) to ensure understanding.
- Keep leaders informed of reports, activities, and urgent results.
- Meet all Human Resources requirements, including yearly safety training and mandatory classes.
- Complete employee health workups and report to work on time as scheduled.
- Successfully pass the annual Basic Arrhythmia exam.
- Perform all other assigned duties.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.
- Required Training: Successful completion of an outside basic arrhythmia class or LMC’s Basic Arrhythmia Course within the new hire probationary period. Candidates with Monitor Tech experience who pass LMC’s Basic Arrhythmia exam may meet this requirement.
