Full-time, 12-hour night shift position (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 72 hours per pay period. Weekends and holidays scheduled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
About the Role
Join a 30-bed Cardiac Stepdown unit on Mercy’s 6th floor, with 10 additional flex beds on the 5th floor ICU. Work 36 hours per week (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM), including every other weekend and holiday rotation, alongside a team dedicated to treating the whole person—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Responsibilities
- Observe telemetry monitors and report dysrhythmias to the RN.
- Document one telemetry strip per shift for each patient, including PRI, QRS, heart rate, strip number, date, time, and rhythm interpretation.
- Report abnormalities to appropriate personnel (RN, LPN, and Case Managers).
- Respond to all monitor alarms promptly.
- Maintain unit supplies (batteries, electrodes, wires) and collaborate with the Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) to order adequate stock.
- Check defibrillator function weekly and crash carts daily, recording results on logs.
- Maintain a clean and organized monitoring area and assigned equipment logs.
- Manage telemetry monitoring tasks: admit patients to arrhythmia monitoring, change batteries/electrodes, remove/reattach patients for tests, review alarm trends at shift end, report rhythms to the next shift, and communicate malfunctions to Bio-Med/Engineering and unit management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a Basic EKG class and monitor orientation.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations for accurate patient record documentation.
- Ability to collect, organize, and present data in user-friendly formats.
- Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
