Monitor Support Specialist - 6th Floor

Employment Type: Full time, 12-hour night shift (7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.), 72 hours per pay period. Weekends and holidays scheduled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Great opportunity for a Monitor Tech, Cardiac Monitor Tech, or Telemetry Tech professional to work in an organization that focuses on treating the whole person—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Position is located on Mercy’s 6th-floor Cardiac Stepdown unit (30 beds, with 10 additional ICU flex beds on the 5th floor). Schedule: 36 hours per week, 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., every other weekend, and holiday rotation. Responsibilities

• Observe telemetry monitors and report dysrhythmias to the RN.
• Document one telemetry strip per shift for each patient and additional strips of clinical importance, including PRI, QRS, heart rate, strip number, date, time, and rhythm interpretation.
• Report abnormalities to appropriate personnel (RN, LPN, and Case Managers).
• Respond to all monitor alarms in a timely manner.
• Maintain unit supplies daily, including telemetry batteries, electrodes, and wires; collaborate with Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) to order adequate supplies.
• Check function of defibrillators weekly and crash carts daily; record checks on log.
• Maintain monitoring area in a neat and clean condition.
• Maintain assigned portion of equipment log.
• Admit patients to arrhythmia monitoring, change batteries and electrodes, remove and reattach patients for tests, review alarm trends at end of shift, report rhythms to next shift, and communicate equipment malfunctions to Bio-Med/Engineering and unit manager.

Requirements

• High school graduation required.
• Basic EKG class and monitor orientation required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations to complete patient record documentation.
• Ability to collect and organize data into user-friendly formats.
• Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) Certificate.
• Ability to monitor quality indicators as outlined.
• Strong oral and written communication skills to meet position responsibilities.
• Ability to apply continuous improvement methods in the delivery of patient services.
