About the role

This position provides Family Peer support services within the Mental Health Crisis Services to clients 5 until 18 years of age and their families. It includes increasing the child's ability to function in the home, school, and community, providing nonadversarial advocacy, supporting families in advocating for culturally appropriate services, assisting parents in developing coping and problem-solving skills, educating parents about mental illnesses and community resources, and dealing with crisis calls and in-home family peer support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide services to increase the child's ability to function in the child's home, school, and community.
  • Offer nonadversarial advocacy to a child and the child's family that encourages partnership and promotes the child's positive change and growth.
  • Support families in advocating for culturally appropriate services for a child in each treatment setting.
  • Aid parents in developing coping and problem-solving skills.
  • Inform parents about mental illnesses and community resources, including connecting them with similar experiences.
  • Deal with crisis calls and provide in-home family peer support.

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Have raised or be currently raising a child with a mental illness.
  • Successfully complete the Minnesota Department of Human Services-approved Certified Family Peer Specialist Training and Certification exam or National Certification through NFF.
  • Use a personal automobile for transportation for business-related travel.
  • Maintain clean driving records, a current driver's license, and auto insurance coverage meeting Canvas Health's requirements.

Qualifications

The certified family peer specialist must meet all of the following qualifications:

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a high school diploma or higher.
  • Successfully complete the Minnesota Department of Human Services-approved Certified Family Peer Specialist Training and Certification exam or National Certification through NFF.

$17.91 - $30.37 per hour

Schedule

Daytime, Monday - Friday, Part-time, 16 hours per week
