Mobile Mental Health Crisis Specialist

Responsibilities

  • Connect violence-exposed youth and their families with comprehensive services that promote healing, foster life-skills, and prevent high-risk/consequence behaviors.
  • Advocate for victims of crime and their immediate families in problem situations.
  • Organize community pop-ups and distribute information about services offered.
  • Cook with various partners, including schools, government agencies, community-based organizations, and internal BUILD program partners.
  • Coordinate outreach events, integrate with BUILD events, and develop events related to mental health and wellness.
  • Document daily activity and collect data to report back to supervisor.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years of direct experience working with inner-city youth in community-based services, or with community-based programming or a bachelor’s degree in social work, Education, Youth Development, Nonprofit Management, or related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of direct experience working with inner-city youth.
  • A valid Driver’s License and insurance, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel locally.
  • Must become an approved BUILD driver for the Mobile Mental Health Bus and BUILD van.

Qualifications

  • Ability to build positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally to achieve the goals of the program.
  • Proven background working collaboratively with groups of diverse backgrounds and experience.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of students and/or parents/community members.

Skills

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Stand, walk, and move continuously during outreach shifts, community events, and youth engagement activities.
  • Carry outreach materials, supplies, and documentation tools across multiple locations.
  • Occasionally assist in de-escalating situations involving youth or community members in distress, following safety protocols.
