About the Role

Peer Specialists help to make Mobile Crisis Intervention Services welcoming, comfortable, supportive, and responsive to individuals who utilize them and their families. Using their personal experience and knowledge of navigating the greater system of care, Peer Specialists provide consumers with support, information, and assistance in connecting with and obtaining community-based resources and services.

  • Convey hope and provide psychoeducation, including information about recovery, rehabilitation, and crisis self-management
  • Assist in arranging the services to which the individual is being referred after the MCI intervention, and work with the person and family to support them during the transition to those follow-up services
  • Provide similar services in the MCI service and Adult CCS as staffing and time permit

All Peer Specialist staff will receive training in recovery-focused peer support for Substance Use Disorders (SUD), who shall assist in interventions with individuals/families presenting in crisis due to substance use disorders. They will support explanation of the process to access services, availability of self-help resources, and provide follow-up for those who may or may not be ready to accept help at the time of initial contact.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support using personal experience and knowledge of navigating the system of care
  • Assist individuals and families in connecting with community-based resources and services
  • Convey hope and offer psychoeducation on recovery, rehabilitation, and crisis self-management
  • Support transitions to follow-up services after MCI intervention
  • Assist in interventions for individuals/families in crisis due to substance use disorders
  • Explain service access processes and self-help resources

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree or Associates degree in a Human Services or related field preferred
  • Certification as a Peer Specialist preferred; must immediately begin and diligently work toward certification process if hired without certification
  • Experience as a consumer of services or family member of a consumer preferred
  • One year experience working with target population required, though experience as a consumer or as a family member may fulfill this requirement
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Basic computer fluency (including Microsoft Office)
  • Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and regular access to a reliable vehicle

Pay

$22.27/hour

  • Additional $1/hour for Certified Peer Specialist (CPS)
  • Additional $2/hour for Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC)
