MN/WI Waste Market Sector Leader

About the role

The Waste Market Sector Lead position within HDR is dedicated to shaping solid waste infrastructure and environmental stewardship. This role focuses on developing comprehensive solutions for waste planning, remediation, engineering, and implementation. The candidate will collaborate with clients and communities to design sustainable, cost-effective systems that contribute to cleaner environments and healthier communities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement business strategies for the Minnesota/Wisconsin Waste Market Sector
• Lead the waste practice through all service lines, focusing on MSW and CCR landfill services
• Manage and develop staff, including leading and supporting project teams
• Manage the financial performance of the Solid Waste Sector, including profitability, revenue, direct labor, and receivables
• Implement, monitor, and champion company policies
• Participate in strategic and tactical planning activities, and develop strategic positioning within Minnesota/Wisconsin and surrounding areas
• Assess marketplace opportunities, gauge HDR prospects, and develop prioritized client targets
• Lead and participate in direct project pursuits, including targeted client relationship development and premarketing
• Manage day-to-day activities and support professional development of staff
• Manage financial performance of the Solid Waste Sector, including profitability, revenue, direct labor and receivables
• Implement, monitor, and be a champion for company policies
• Participate in project teams in Project Manager role and achieve utilization goals by actively leading or supporting projects
• Serve as client manager for key clients in the area
• Participate in industry associations and community organizations to elevate HDR’s brand in target markets
• Identify key investments (talent, acquisitions, and technology) to improve our industry leadership position
• Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications

• Minimum of 8-13+ years’ experience in the areas of landfills, waste facilities, construction, and waste management for a municipality or within a consultant environment
• Familiarity with environmental regulations
• Demonstrated research, analysis, and interpretation skills for problem-solving
• Adept at using all aspects of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills
• Prior staff management and development experience
• Experience with industry associations and maintaining a visible profile in the market sector
• Ability to work cooperatively with Regional Market Sector Directors, Market Sector Directors, Business Class Directors, Regional Business Group Directors, Area Business Group Managers, Area Marketing Managers, and Area Managers
