About the role
Join our team in Boise, Idaho, as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) and play a vital role in delivering accurate, timely laboratory results that support exceptional patient care. Whether you're beginning your laboratory career or bringing years of experience, you'll process patient specimens, perform a broad range of laboratory testing, operate advanced laboratory instrumentation, and collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure the highest standards of quality and service.
Responsibilities
- Safely and effectively perform phlebotomy while on-call only at neighboring hospital.
- Cover on-call hours as needed to ensure laboratory coverage.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing and testing of collected specimens.
- Perform the full range of laboratory tests, including Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, Microbiology, Urinalysis, and Coagulation.
- Use a microscope to evaluate cells and bacteria by shape, size, and color, and identify colorimetric reactions and color differences in crystals.
- Operate complex automated laboratory equipment, electronic equipment, computer software, and precision instruments.
- Evaluate test results and recognize abnormal values in specific population groups.
- Report laboratory findings to pathologists and other healthcare providers.
- Develop and modify laboratory procedures as needed.
- Establish and monitor quality programs to ensure the accuracy of laboratory testing.
- Participate in all aspects of proficiency testing.
- Understand and adhere to HIPAA policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
- Perform administrative duties while providing excellent customer service to patients, clients, and employees.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology for MLT candidates or bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related laboratory science program for MLS candidates.
- Current ASCP certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) is required.
Physical Requirements
- Wear appropriate protective gear (lab coat, gloves, goggles, and face shield) at all times while in the lab.
- Regularly exposed to infection by handling potentially infectious samples.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
- Lift up to 25 pounds.
- Mobility to climb stairs on a regular basis.
- Must be able to distinguish color and pass vision acuity test in compliance with CAP regulations.
OSHA Category
This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, and/or tissues. All employees performing these duties are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis-B vaccination series.
Pay
- Starting at $28.00 per hour for ASCP-certified Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT).
- Starting at $34.00 per hour for ASCP-certified Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS).
Schedule
On-call (days and hours vary based on laboratory coverage needs).
