About the Role
This position involves performing preventative care maintenance duties for the Shoals, IN underground mine.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, estimate, and complete repairs on mobile equipment and fixed equipment.
- Repair, rebuild, and maintain various equipment such as pumps, conveyors, and crushers.
- Examine parts and components for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
- Accurately diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical problems on heavy equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
- Interpret information from schematics, maintenance and parts manuals, and OEM standards and specifications.
- Make necessary repairs (overhauls, maintenance, service, or reconditioning) in a timely fashion to reduce equipment downtime.
- Perform all assigned work in a safe, well-managed manner and ensure the work area is safe for mechanics and other employees.
- Maintain active communication with the Maintenance Supervisor and other crews to coordinate work and provide updates on progress.
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance prior to releasing for return to active duty.
- Return well-documented and accurately completed work orders in a timely manner.
- Conduct service on all assigned equipment in accordance with original manufacturer specifications and standards in a safe, efficient, and environmentally secure manner.
- Report equipment condition to maintenance supervisor for potential issues.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards with focus on the care and custody of materials.
- Safely operate and park equipment within the shop areas.
- Demonstrate strong understanding of safety policies and procedures relating to mine equipment and maintenance practices (e.g., guarding, blocking, lock-out, tag-out).
- Apply strong knowledge of mobile equipment braking systems, steering systems, suspension systems, compressed air systems, engine tune-up requirements, and electronic engine controls.
- Perform failure and wear analysis.
- Use all tools and equipment necessary to work in the Mobile Maintenance Department.
- Perform basic welding and cutting.
- Complete detailed paperwork (i.e., work orders).
- Use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
Requirements
- Three or more years of experience maintaining heavy equipment in a mining, construction, or farming environment.
- Experience maintaining diesel equipment.
- Experience maintaining electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on mobile equipment.
- Ability to read and understand schematics of mobile equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent safety and attendance record.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Qualifications
Trade school or college degree or certificate in heavy-duty mechanics preferred.
Pay
Hourly pay range: $30-$41.50. Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
