About the Role

Reporting to the rotating shift Supervisor, the heavy duty mechanic typically works a rotating 5/4 days/nights schedule. The mechanic repairs and maintains all hauling and support equipment through planned maintenance scheduling; monitors equipment; communicates equipment needs and issues; partners with operations departments and mobile planning to provide both tactical and strategic support for the needs of the mine to operate in an effective, efficient and safe manner.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example in all of Marigold's safety processes, ensuring safe practices are utilized while performing work
  • Utilize computer technology and a work order system to troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment, including preventative maintenance and component replacement
  • Implement continuous improvement of maintenance strategy that fully utilizes available workforce to achieve maximum equipment availability
  • Interpret information from schematics, maintenance and parts manuals
  • Perform work area housekeeping duties
  • Determine if work areas are safe and free of hazards; perform Field Level Risk Assessments
  • Determine severity of equipment down times and estimate time to make repairs
  • Order correct parts for procurement from the warehouse or supplier
  • Ensure compliance with company contamination control policies
  • Commit to environmental stewardship including immediately reporting and mitigating spills and other environmental impacts
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English using all standard forms of business communication
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
  • Clear understanding and willingness to observe and practice company SOPs and policies
  • Strong understanding of safety policies and procedures relating to mine equipment and maintenance practices (i.e. guarding, blocking, lock out tag out)
  • Knowledge and skills to operate and understand diagnostic equipment including computerized instrumentation
  • Consistent attendance
  • Valid Driver License

Skills & Experience

  • Own and maintain required personal tools as per the technician's level of expertise
  • Strong experience in heavy equipment - hydraulic and electrical systems preferred
  • Understanding of failure and wear analysis
