About the Role

Direct the personnel and activities of a project management unit, including development, definition, and implementation of work processes and financial management tools. Develop and implement processes and tools to oversee and effectively manage projects, control costs, ensure adherence to schedules, prioritize projects and resources, and forecast budgets. Ensure focus and attainment of business goals and objectives. Foster an environment that promotes diversity, high productivity, and continuous learning. Champion safe work behaviors and culture.

This position may require working extended hours during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the budget of an assigned portfolio of work, establishing and monitoring business plans and objectives while balancing cost control with service level needs. (20%)
  • Develop and maintain an environment that fosters a high-performance culture and a learning organization. Lead the Project Management team in promoting diversity and serve as a change agent for business initiatives. (20%)
  • Provide leadership and development to direct reports, including accurate and timely feedback on performance and operations. Conduct performance planning and appraisals, and identify growth opportunities. (20%)
  • Interface with other Exelon departments and represent Exelon to external business units regarding projects under management and supporting tools. (10%)
  • Facilitate open and honest communication across the organization, integrating upward communication and addressing employee grievances. Develop methods to assess communication effectiveness and implement improvements. (10%)
  • Manage large and/or highly complex projects or programs, ensuring delivery on schedule and at or below budget. (20%)

Implement and manage a project portfolio/program with annual expenditures of approximately $100–$150 million to meet commitments to state and local governments, regulatory agencies, and external customers. Oversee performance of multiple project teams through assigned project managers, with direct supervision of 4–6 employees and indirect management of several hundred contract personnel. Interact with all levels of Exelon leadership, contractor management, and front-line employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or a related field and 7–10 years of relevant project management or related experience. In lieu of a degree, 9–12 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or the ability to achieve PMP within two years of job entry.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience managing large, complex projects using project management techniques, including:
    • Planning and Control (product/work breakdown structures, critical path analysis, scope control techniques)
    • Issue and Risk Management (identification, assessment, and management of project risks, including contingency plans)
    • Project Management Tools (methods and techniques for planning, scheduling, resource balancing, and monitoring cost)
    • Business Case Development (cost/benefit evaluations, including net present value analysis)
    • Progress Reporting (cost/schedule curves, project status reports, earned value analysis)
  • Proven leadership ability in a high-performance culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus, communicate effectively, engage others, and hold people accountable.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process enhancements and efficiencies, including technology and performance improvements.
  • Demonstrated business acumen, customer awareness, and ability to create value.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results, build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively, and foster culture change within a matrixed organization.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to an automobile.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering (or advanced technical degree) or Business Administration.
  • PMP Certification.
  • Experience or knowledge of the utility industry, specifically in design, planning, or construction.
  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Utility industry experience in design, planning, or construction.
  • Strong financial skills in budgeting, cost forecasting, and performance reporting.
  • Experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.
