About the role

The Medical Technologist collects and prepares specimens and performs laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. You will verify, record, and report lab results accurately and promptly, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, hospital policies, and laboratory procedures. Responsibilities include maintaining the cleanliness of all equipment, instruments, and work areas.

Responsibilities

• Possess extensive knowledge of the physiology and function of the normal human body, as well as changes due to disease relevant to testing in your assigned section.
• Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
• Perform only those tests authorized by the Laboratory Director, based on education, training, experience, and technical abilities.
• Conduct various laboratory tests on specimens, evaluate results according to predefined criteria, and report/enter/verify them in the Laboratory Information System.
• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting, correct issues, or notify the coordinator, laboratory management, or medical director.
• Document all corrective actions taken when systems deviate from established performance specifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in a chemical, physical, biological, or other life science, with relevant generalist clinical laboratory experience within the last five years.
• OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in laboratory medical technology, including clinical rotation.
• National registration as an MLS(ASCP)cm, MT(ASCP), or equivalent (e.g., AMT, AAB, HEW), or registry-eligible at the date of hire. If not held at hire, certification must be obtained within the first six months of employment.
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact successfully with staff, patients, patient families, and vendors.
