About the Role
Aids the provider in delivering quality patient care tailored to the age of the patient population served in the practice. Ensures care is provided efficiently and safely, adhering to the office's standard of care and protocols.
Responsibilities
- Routinely assists provider with patient exams and prepares exam rooms for specific procedures.
- Accurately maintains log books and monitors pharmaceutical sample cabinets for expired items.
- Maintains patient medical records by verifying patient information (e.g., last name, address, insurance, guarantor) at each visit, filing/scanning documents, and providing new patients with registration forms.
- Notifies patients of normal test results, returns patient phone calls, and schedules testing, procedures, and referral appointments.
- Collects clinical information by interviewing patients, preparing reports for provider review, and documenting information from agencies, referring providers, or hospital departments.
- Ensures patient confidentiality and releases information only with appropriate consent.
- Performs clinical duties such as obtaining vital signs, documenting in medical records, collecting/processing specimens, and performing phlebotomy as trained.
- Maintains exam rooms by cleaning, stocking supplies, and preparing instruments for sterilization.
- Schedules, reschedules, and cancels patient appointments as needed.
- Processes incoming phone calls, directs calls appropriately, and takes accurate messages.
- Assists in billing by collecting/posting payments, balancing cash drawers, preparing superbills, updating patient financial/demographic information, and entering charges.
- Works in a constant state of alertness and safety.
- Performs other assigned duties.
Requirements
- High School diploma/GED or 10 years of relevant work experience.
- One year of experience in a related role.
- Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) certification required within 90 days of employment; other resuscitation certifications may be required depending on the department.
Physical Requirements
- Constant standing and walking.
- Frequent use of hearing and speech for communication, and hearing to distinguish body sounds/alarms.
- Frequent lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry.
- Frequent use of near and far vision, and color identification.
- Occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, and repetitive movements.
- Occasional use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships.
- Occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
- Occasional use of smell to detect odors.
- Occasional driving.
