Position: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
Location: 3060 Salt Creek Ln Arlington Heights, IL
Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm, rotating weekends and holidays
What You Will Do
- Prepares, collects, logs and labels specimens for testing from Salt Creek patients
- Performs pre/post-analytical processing/ordering of specimens arriving in the lab
- Performs moderate and high-complexity testing
- Performs blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
- Understand and follow all physicians' orders
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders
- Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and accurately label them
- Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections, such as urine or fecal, as required
- Performs quality control procedures and instrument checks
- Notifies nursing unit and/or physician of critical lab values
- Maintains accurate laboratory records on procedures performed for statistics and billing
- Maintains current knowledge of hospital policy, CAP, JCAHO, state and other regulatory requirements
- Manages and operates laboratory equipment safely and correctly
- Demonstrates knowledge of new testing methods, products, instrumentation; remains informed on all current technologies
- Interacts professionally with the Laboratory Manager, President and medical staff
- Consults with other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities
- Follows standard precautions at all times
- Works cooperatively with others
What You Will Need
- Education: Preferred: graduated from MLT (Associates) program. Required.
- Certification: MLT certification
- Experience: Preferred: Previous relevant clinical experience, least 2 years previous laboratory experience. Must know Must have 2 years phlebotomy experience, blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data
- Unique or Preferred Skills: Strong foundation in medical laboratory technician science. Able to solve technical and interdepartmental problems related to various Laboratory areas with assistance under supervision. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and taking corrective action or notifying appropriate supervisory personnel to assist with taking corrective action. Good communication and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.
