About the role

Beloit Health System is seeking an MLT to join their team. The position offers a sign-on bonus and flexible scheduling options.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and evaluate various complex chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic, immunologic, and immunochemical tests.
  • Accurately and completely report results of tests and procedures.
  • Recognize and resolve problems, troubleshoot equipment, and use alternative methods when necessary.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, including performing instrument checks, quality control procedures, calibration, and maintenance.
  • Meet established turnaround times for routine and STAT tests.
  • Organize and prioritize work during both heavy and light workload situations.
  • Access, input, and retrieve information from the EMR.
  • Work extra during shortages or until workload is complete.
  • Absorb and train new employees in the laboratory.
  • Communicate with physicians or nurses regarding callback values or problems.
  • Maintain a clean and disinfected work area and use appropriate personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent combination of education and clinical experience.
  • Registration by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists within one year of hire.
  • Promptness in answering phone requests, instrument, and out-patient alarms.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate safely all instruments, needles, and sharps used in daily work assignments.
  • Ability to work independently and react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of Beloit Memorial Hospital policies.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply proper procedures.
  • Promptness and efficiency in reporting results via computer and paper or "call back" results if indicated.
  • Plan, prioritize, and respond to information in an appropriate time frame.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions.
  • Training, knowledge, and skills necessary to perform one or more of the following activities (evaluation, treatment, and/or patient care).

  • Sound judgment and medical technology principles.
