Maintenance Technician
About the role
Under the general direction of the Director of Facility Services and the Facility Management Team, works independently to maintain buildings, equipment and grounds for Community Unit School District 200 and is committed to customer satisfaction for all shareholders in the CUSD 200. This position is responsible to be on call per rotation schedule for emergency service as assigned by the Director of Facility Services or assignee.
Responsibilities
The position is divided into five key functions:
- Key Function A – Buildings: Maintain, diagnose and repair all aspects of Community Unit School District 200 buildings or designated locations as requested or required to maintain operating excellence for these sites.
- Key Function B – Equipment: Maintain, repair and correctly use Community Unit School District 200 assigned equipment to sustain a safe and secure work area.
- Key Function C – Grounds: Preservation, development and care of all grounds, drives, walks and parking areas of Community Unit School District 200 buildings or designated locations as requested or required to maintain operating excellence for these sites.
- Key Function D – Custodial: Clean and maintain Community Unit School District 200 buildings or designated locations as requested in order maintain operating excellence and safety.
- Key Function E – Knowledge And Physical Requirements: Knowledge and Physical Requirements are an essential part of this position.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years experience as a professional maintenance technician or grounds keeper is mandatory for this position.
- A High School diploma or equivalent is necessary.
- A valid driver's license (Not a CDL position) is obligatory as well as the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
Skills
Representative activities for each key function include:
- For Key Function A – Buildings: Construct, repair and modify furniture, cabinets, counters, shelving units, bulletin boards, desks, tables, partitions and school office equipment and furniture, replace broken windows and glass, assist remodeling projects, locate mechanical system main shut offs, and detect leaks and replace ceiling tile.
- For Key Function B – Equipment: Make basic calibrations of valves and controls for all HVAC equipment, perform preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment, repair building equipment and machinery, service all electrical supply and lighting equipment, and operate all hand, power tools and equipment to complete assigned tasks.
- For Key Function C – Grounds: Complete assigned lawn care tasks, maintain playground equipment and safe ground covers, assist with snow removal, mulch flower beds, paths, playgrounds, and other areas, and cultivate, prune and trim landscape trees and shrubs.
- For Key Function D – Custodial: Maintain custodial building equipment, assist with correcting Indoor Environment Concerns (IEQ), understand and read product manuals, use of all safety equipment, and inspect and adjust interior and exterior trashcans.
- For Key Function E – Knowledge And Physical Requirements: Climb ladders and scaffold, bend and flex to inspect tunnels and other facility features, have sufficient physical strength to handle heavy materials, properly use all safety equipment, and tolerate noise, smoke, fumes and heat.
Benefits and Pay
The starting rate of pay is $19.36/hr. Expected hours of work will be 7 AM to 4 PM for first shift or 3 PM to 11:30 PM for second shift. The regular full-time workweek shall be defined as consisting of not more than five (5) consecutive days per week during the period of Monday through Saturday.
Schedule
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Facility Services or assignee in accordance with provisions of board policy.
