About the role
Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager or a Medical Technologist, the Medical Laboratory Technician performs a variety of laboratory tests in accordance with hospital policies and procedures; provides for operation, care, and maintenance of scientific equipment; collects specimens from patients ranging in age from neonate to geriatric, and is responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of such duties and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Maintain full confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Show strong written, oral and organizational skills.
- Show attention to detail.
- Perform blood collection technique on all age groups.
- Perform high complex testing.
- Show working knowledge of pre-analytical, analytical, as well as post analytical testing variables and how to identify problems that may adversely affect test performance.
- Show computer skills, excellent customer service, and be an ongoing liaison between clients and providers.
- Show knowledge in laboratory compliance and Medical Necessity.
- Be able to multitask under stressful situations.
- Address questions from clients and providers under the supervision of the Medical Technologist.
Requirements
- MLT (ASCP) or equivalent registration, or MLT eligible under Medicare laboratory regulations (must obtain within 6 months of hire).
- BLS certification required through American Heart Association.
- Provide a copy of High School Diploma or equivalent.
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in appropriate field.
- No previous experience is required in addition to clinical training, however at least 1-year experience is desired.
Skills
- Knowledge of laboratory compliance and Medical Necessity.
- Ability to multitask under stressful situations.
