About the role
Beloit Health System is seeking an MLT to join the NorthPointe team. This position offers a sign-on bonus and varied shift options.
Responsibilities
- Perform and evaluate complex chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic, immunologic, and immunochemical tests.
- Quantitatively and qualitatively analyze body fluids using manual and automated instrumentation.
- Accurately and completely report test results.
- Resolve problems, troubleshoot equipment, and use alternative methods when necessary.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, including performing instrument checks, quality control procedures, calibration, and maintenance.
- Maintain turnaround times for routine and STAT tests.
- Organize and prioritize work during heavy and light workload situations.
- Access, input, and retrieve information from the EMR.
- Work extra during staff shortages or until workload is complete.
- Train new employees.
- Communicate with physicians regarding callback values.
- Maintain a clean and disinfected work area and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Assist with specimen processing, order processing, and glucometer runs.
- Process reference laboratory requests and reports.
- Package and process special requests requiring mailing through general mail.
Requirements
- Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technician or equivalent combination of education and clinical experience.
- Registration by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists within one year of hire.
- Promptness in answering phone requests, instrument, and outpatient alarms.
- Promptness and efficiency in reporting results of laboratory findings via computer and paper or "call back" results if indicated.
- Ability to work independently and react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Adherence to hospital and laboratory policies, rules, and regulations.
- Respect and consideration given to the dignity of each patient, visitor, and fellow employee.

- Ability to speak clearly and distinctly and interact positively with physicians, peers, and the public.
- Promptness and efficiency in reporting results of laboratory findings via computer and paper or "call back" results if indicated.
Skills
- Sound judgment and adherence to medical technology principles.
- Interpretation and adaptation of procedures to Beloit Memorial Hospital policies.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions.
