About the role

The role involves performing quality control and complex patient testing, developing skills, and maintaining competency in assigned laboratory areas. The position also entails serving as a team leader and managing workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Quality Control (QC) and complex patient testing
  • Maintains competency and adds new skills as technologies change
  • Manages inventory levels and ensures proper storage and disposal of reagents and supplies
  • Performs advanced equipment trouble-shooting and maintenance
  • Serves as a team leader, facilitating smooth transitions between shifts and coordinating product/method/new test development
  • Restocks workstations with supplies to maintain consistent workflow
  • Identifies and resolves specimen status trends and issues
  • Trains and mentors staff and healthcare professionals

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or related field
  • Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Science program or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3 years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist
  • ASCP or AMT-MT Licensure (BB, C, H, MT/MLS, M, MB)

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience: 3 years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist
  • Additional Skills/Requirements: Knowledge of current medical terminology, laboratory equipment, and testing; ability to anticipate and react calmly to emergencies; skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; proficiency in reading and understanding information about instrumentation; ability to follow written protocols; ability to work independently; ability to communicate clearly; participation in performance improvement activities; adherence to safety laws, regulations, and standards; cooperation within a team; recognition of interdependencies with other areas; sharing and initiating regular communication with co-workers; participation in regular staff meetings; use of knowledge acquired through training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform job duties; completion of educational activities to continually improve skills and assist consultants; participation in improvement of methods and processes.
