About the Role

Supports the licensed healthcare team in performing office examinations and procedures by organizing and managing clinic patient flow, gathering and documenting patient screening data, assisting with patient and family education, and communicating with the patient's healthcare team.

Primary care is the foundation of good health, serving as the first contact for general health issues, yearly screenings, and health questions. Vanderbilt Primary Care provides trusted partners in health and wellness across specialties including family and internal medicine, women’s health, geriatrics, and pediatrics.

Responsibilities

• Directs and supports patient flow as well as unit operations by maintaining supplies, equipment, and unit environmental standards.
• Facilitates identification of resources to meet patient healthcare needs.
• Performs and assists with procedures according to organizational and departmental standards.
• Collects and documents patient screening data for the healthcare team.
• Assists with patient and family education.
• Demonstrates ability to anticipate basic resource needs, identify tasks, set priorities, and organize work.
• Performs clinical care including vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, medication administration, and point-of-care testing.
• Maintains patient exam rooms, supplies, and equipment.
• Utilizes clinical applications for patient documentation with limited experience or training.

Requirements

• Certification as a Medical Assistant from one of the following organizations (or ability to obtain within 120 days in accordance with state guidelines):
  • AMT (American Medical Technologists)
  • AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants)
  • NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing)
  • NHA (National Health Career Association)
  • NAHP (National Association for Health Professionals)
• Candidates may sit for the certification exam with 12 months of patient care experience.
• Graduate of an approved discipline-specific program.
• Less than 1 year of relevant work experience.
