About the Role
This is a dual role as a Medical Assistant / Patient Support Assistant in Orthopedics. The position is full-time (40 hours per week) with varying hours Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM, typically involving 8-9 hour shifts. Frequent travel to surrounding offices in Arlington Heights and Schaumburg is required.
Responsibilities
- Provide skilled front office and clinical support to the physician practice and serve as a liaison between the physician and patient to coordinate care.
- Deliver direct patient care collaboratively with the care team when required.
- Document accurately in the EMR and adhere to patient confidentiality standards, including obtaining/verifying medical history, medications, allergies, and reason for visit.
- Accurately collect and document vital signs, prepare patients for physician visits, and utilize the standardized rooming patient protocol.
- Administer medications per physician orders, perform EKGs, spirometry testing, and other office tests following documented competencies.
- Distribute post-care directions prepared by the physician to patients.
- Assist in procedures, including room setup, preparation, cleanup, and maintaining supplies for each practitioner.
- Maintain cleanliness of clinical and non-clinical areas such as patient rooms and laboratory.
- Assist with obtaining prior authorizations and pre-certifications as needed.
- Abstract clinical information into Epic at the direction of the physician or practice manager.
- Perform clinic inventory tracking, stocking, and audit expiration dates of all patient care items.
- Obtain medical records from organizations outside Endeavor Health.
- Create and open orders per protocol or as directed by the provider.
- Answer incoming telephone calls and handle each appropriately, following NorthShore telephone customer service standards.
- Take accurate and complete messages according to protocols.
- Provide timely responses to EMR messages, appointment requests, and other In Basket messages.
- Follow up on patient issues as appropriate.
- Confirm/update and distribute call schedules; notify answering service and internal on-call systems.
- Complete prescription refills as per practice protocol.
- Communicate test results and other information to patients via EMR or telephone as directed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- BLS/CPR Certification for the Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association required.
- Keyboard and computer skills.

Schedule
