About the role

The role involves preparing patients for examinations, performing preliminary tests, and assisting healthcare providers. Responsibilities also include maintaining exam rooms, managing supplies, and coordinating with front office personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests.
  • Takes blood pressure, weight, and temperature.
  • Reports patient history summary.
  • Cleans exam rooms and obtains lab specimens.
  • Selects appropriate equipment for specimen collection.
  • Verifies specimen orders according to department policy.
  • Prepares exam rooms for patient encounters and assists Laboratory Information Personnel (LIP).
  • Maintains appropriate levels of supplies and relevant forms for testing performed.
  • Documents medical information in electronic medical records.
  • Performs electrocardiograms and other relevant tests, following established policies and procedures and universal precautions.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing and recording medical history.
  • Coordinates with front office personnel and ancillary staff in a professional and positive manner.
  • Assists in front office functions, including checkout/in duties, claim creation, and discharge paperwork.
  • Performs injections, subcutaneous or intramuscular, as directed by a licensed independent practitioner (LIP).
  • Performs other selected clinical and clerical duties as assigned.
  • May cross-train to perform Patient Reception Rep job duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by the National Healthcare Association (NHA), CAHEA, ABHES, or a recognized accrediting agency.
  • Current certification from the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), NCCT, AMCA, NAHP, NCMA, or AMT.
  • AHA BLS certification.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, knowledge of insurance specifications and medical terminology, excellent phone etiquette, and effective communication.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, basic computer and data entry skills, and medical record management.

Qualifications

  • Willing to take delegation from RNs/LPNs.
  • Ability to exhibit cooperation, flexibility, and provide assistance when interfacing with patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Consistency and timeliness in attendance.

Skills

  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of insurance specifications and medical terminology.
  • Excellent phone etiquette and effective communication.
  • Special Training: Knowledge of medical terminology, basic computer and data entry skills, and medical record management.
