We are seeking a Night Medication Technician in the Sioux Falls and Canton area for our facility in Canton. Keystone Treatment Center is a 126-bed inpatient treatment center providing services to adults with chemical dependency, compulsive gambling, and co-occurring mental health conditions. Located in Canton, SD, just a short drive from Sioux Falls, SD, Keystone has been delivering comprehensive, individualized care since 1973.

About the role

You will work with the nursing team to provide therapeutic care to patients, administering prescribed medications and ensuring a safe, supportive environment under the direction of a charge nurse or supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Administer prescribed medications to patients according to established protocols and physician orders.
  • Prepare and organize medication doses, including oral, topical, and other forms as directed.
  • Ensure medications are stored and handled in accordance with safety guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Document patient interactions, report changes in patient conditions or behaviors, and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Identify self to patients and visitors promptly; respond to patient requests and distress in a non-threatening manner using de-escalation techniques.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, family members, guests, and healthcare team members.
  • Adhere to work schedule and maintain overall attendance.
  • Follow established policies, procedures, and standards for patient care; stay informed about changes in medication practices and healthcare regulations.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development as required.
  • Collaborate with staff to treat and rehabilitate the facility’s patient population.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude; address and resolve patient complaints.
  • Prioritize patient safety at all times.
  • Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a state-required Medication Technician/Aide training program.
  • Basic understanding of pharmacology and medication administration techniques.
  • Previous experience in a behavioral health setting preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience working with the population of the facility preferred.

Qualifications

  • Certification as a Medication Technician/Aide, as required by the state.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire).
  • First aid certification may be required based on state or facility.

Schedule

  • Full-time night position: 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM, 3 days per week.
  • 12-hour shifts with shift differentials available.
  • All full-time Medication Technicians rotate weekend shifts.

Training and Orientation

New hire Medication Aides will attend a 2-day facility orientation and patient treatment program overview, followed by 2 weeks of unit orientation with a preceptor. Shadow shifts are available for interested candidates.
