About the role
The West Coast healthcare team at Arup is seeking a Healthcare Mechanical Engineering Leader to join our multi-disciplinary team based in Los Angeles. This role offers the opportunity to lead design projects, manage complex client relationships, and contribute to sustainable solutions.
Responsibilities
- Leading multi-disciplinary design projects, particularly in healthcare and providing leadership to the team.
- Comprehensively understanding and designing mechanical systems including airside systems, heating and cooling hydronic plant systems, specialty exhaust systems, and steam systems.
- Representing Arup as a whole and communicating with clients regarding project goals and financials.
- Ensuring contracts align with the firm's commercial objectives and risk tolerance.
- Implementing healthcare business development strategies to win new projects.
- Cultivating and maintaining relationships with existing and prospective clients.
- Assisting and supervising staff on a variety of projects, primarily in Healthcare.
- Coordinating with multiple disciplines and working in conjunction with project managers to deliver comprehensive and coordinated design deliverables.
- Assisting, supervising or mentoring team members and delivering timely feedback and recognition to others.
- Preparing drawings, specifications, technical reports, and presentation materials incorporating sustainable design methods in buildings.
- Participating in local professional associations.
- Ensuring quality standards, commercial metrics, and client relations for projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one within 1 year.
- 9 or more years of professional experience designing building HVAC systems, including airside and hydronic system components, with experience working on hospital projects.
- Familiarity with codes and standards, specifically CMC, OSHPD, IECC/ASHRAE 90.1, FGI/ASHRAE 170, LEED energy efficiency and indoor quality, and NFPA.
- Experience in leading multidisciplinary projects and managing complex and large-scale client relationships.
- Track-record of winning projects and proven expertise in building and managing successful relationships with client organizations.
- Experienced, dynamic, and engaging leader with a strong track record of leading and managing teams.
