This isn’t just a job, it’s a chance to lead innovation, engineer impact, and build a legacy of excellence. HDR is hiring a Mechanical Principal - Healthcare - for our Building Engineering Services Team in Pennington, New Jersey.
Responsibilities
- Manage a design production team to deliver HVAC and Plumbing work through recruitment, staff development, and training.
- Maintain workflow and utilization, mentor and staff development, forecast and schedule, quality control, and foster a team environment.
- Lead and coordinate services with other disciplines across HDR, and lead the development of construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations, as well as the review of shop drawings during construction.
- Directly involved with external clients as well as internal project managers, market sector leads, business group managers, and other leaders throughout HDR.
- Implement, monitor, and support company policies, especially as delegated by the Mechanical Section Manager.
- Participate in leadership for technical service functions and support the development of HDR services in technical design.
- Prepare mechanical proposals including scope development and estimating hours/fee, under the supervision of the Mechanical Section Manager.
- Provide technical expertise in HVAC and Plumbing design across a variety of markets including Healthcare, Education and Science, Data Centers, Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial, and Federal Clients.
- Review work of junior staff.
Qualifications
- Master's degree with a focus in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in mechanical design.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical/HVAC design of buildings and facilities.
- Excellent planning skills.
- Ability to thrive in a team environment.
- Ability to manage, lead and mentor other team members.
- Experience directly supervising multiple staff members.
- Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
- Experience designing laboratory, healthcare facilities.
- Experience with Revit.

- Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- A minimum of 10 years in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings.
- Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered.
