About the role

The West Coast healthcare team at Arup is seeking a Healthcare Mechanical Engineering Leader to join our multi-disciplinary team based in Los Angeles. This role offers the opportunity to lead projects, particularly in the healthcare sector, and to contribute to sustainable and innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Leading multi-disciplinary design projects, specifically healthcare and providing leadership to the team.
  • Comprehensive understanding of design of mechanical systems including complete airside systems, heating and cooling hydronic plant systems, specialty exhaust systems, and steam systems.
  • Represent Arup as a whole and communicate with clients regarding project goals and financials, ensuring contracts are aligned with the firm's commercial objectives and risk tolerance.
  • Implementing healthcare business development strategies to win new projects.
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Overseeing the preparation of proposals and bid submissions and negotiating contracts, terms, and conditions.
  • Assisting and supervising staff on a variety of projects, primarily in Healthcare.
  • Working in collaboration with different stakeholders and code officials such as HCAi to deliver integrated projects through construction.
  • Coordinating with multiple disciplines and working in conjunction with project managers to deliver comprehensive and coordinated design deliverables.
  • Assisting, supervising or mentoring team members and delivering timely feedback and recognition to others.
  • Preparing drawings, specifications, technical reports and presentation materials and incorporating sustainable design methods in buildings.
  • Participating in local Professional Associations.
  • Responsible for quality standards, commercial metrics, and client relations for projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.
  • PE or ability to obtain one within 1 year.
  • 9 or more years of professional experience designing building HVAC systems, including airside and hydronic system components, including experience working on hospital projects.
  • Familiarity with codes and standards, specifically CMC, OSHPD, IECC/ASHRAE 90.1, FGI/ASHRAE 170, LEED energy efficiency and indoor quality, and NFPA.
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary projects and managing complex and large scale client relationships.
  • Track-record of work winning and demonstrable commercial foresight along with proven expertise in building and managing successful relationships with client organizations.
  • Experienced, dynamic, and engaging leader, who has a strong track record of leading and managing teams. Provides an aspirational role model to those developing their career.
  • Ability to facilitate connections between external stakeholders and internal disciplines.

Pay

The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Los Angeles is $211,000 to $230,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary.
