About the role
The West Coast healthcare team at Arup is seeking a Healthcare Mechanical Engineering Leader to join their multi-disciplinary team based in Los Angeles. The role involves leading multi-disciplinary design projects, particularly in the healthcare sector, and managing complex client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Leading multi-disciplinary design projects, specifically healthcare and providing leadership to the team.
- Comprehensive understanding of design of mechanical systems including complete airside systems, heating and cooling hydronic plant systems, specialty exhaust systems, and steam systems.
- Represent Arup as a whole and communicate with clients regarding project goals and financials, ensuring contracts are aligned with the firm's commercial objectives and risk tolerance.
- Implement healthcare business development strategies to win new projects.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients.
- Oversee the preparation of proposals and bid submissions and negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions.
- Assist and supervise staff on a variety of projects, primarily in Healthcare.
- Work in collaboration with different stakeholders and code officials such as HCAi to deliver integrated projects through construction.
- Coordinate with multiple disciplines and work in conjunction with project managers to deliver comprehensive and coordinated design deliverables.
- Assist, supervise or mentor team members and deliver timely feedback and recognition to others.
- Prepare drawings, specifications, technical reports and presentation materials and incorporate sustainable design methods in buildings.
- Participate in local Professional Associations.
- Responsible for quality standards, commercial metrics, and client relations for projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one within 1 year.
- 9 or more years of professional experience designing building HVAC systems, including airside and hydronic system components, with experience working on hospital projects.
- Familiarity with codes and standards, specifically CMC, OSHPD, IECC/ASHRAE 90.1, FGI/ASHRAE 170, LEED energy efficiency and indoor quality, and NFPA.
- Experience in leading multidisciplinary projects and managing complex and large-scale client relationships.
- Track-record of winning projects and proven expertise in building and managing successful relationships with client organizations.
- Experienced, dynamic, and engaging leader with a strong track record of leading and managing teams. Provides an aspirational role model to those developing their career.
- Ability to facilitate connections between external stakeholders and internal disciplines.
