About the role
The Components Assembler I assembles beamline components for custom-made ion beam accelerator systems.
Responsibilities
- Prepare work by studying parts lists and gathering parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials.
- Perform custom assembly of vacuum beamline components adhering to specified blueprints.
- Assemble components by examining connections for correct fit, alignment, and fastening parts and subassemblies either manually or with hoists.
- Verify correct quantities of parts and ensure they are free of flaws, defects, or imperfections.
- Conduct vacuum leak checking to determine air-tight integrity using proper tools and knowledge.
- Perform system testing by checking input/output of all parts and verifying correct operations of devices and systems.
- Collaborate with team members, engineers, and manufacturing staff to ensure consistency and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Document assembly processes, including recording serial numbers, problems encountered, and solutions applied.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and customer expectations.
- Follow vacuum cleaning processes and policies.
- Prepare parts for sandblasting and sandblast parts.
- Clean and maintain work area and equipment, including tools.
- Perform ultrasonic cleaning to remove contaminants from intricate items.
- Perform spot-welding of small parts as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in mechanical engineering preferred.
- 1 to 2 years of mechanical assembly experience.
- High attention to detail and focus on quality control.
- Ability to read and interpret complex instructions and blueprints.
- Proficiency with manual and power hand tools and common measuring tools.
