About the Role
This position provides professional Mechanical Engineering service and technical support to Maintenance and Operation departments for the redesign, modification, re-engineering, and retro-fitting of machinery and equipment to improve quality and productivity.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates and sets priorities for projects.
- Analyzes and defines machinery and equipment problems to improve quality, productivity, repair damaged equipment, save money, and increase production line efficiency.
- Re-designs, re-engineers, and/or retro-fits machinery and equipment to improve quality, productivity, repair damage, save costs, and enhance production line up-time.
- Defines and scopes projects, creates engineering drawings or layouts, writes engineering reports, prepares cost estimates, obtains bids, writes work orders, and makes recommendations to management.
- Obtains approval for purchasing necessary equipment and materials and works with Maintenance and Operations personnel to install retro-fits.
- Communicates and coordinates with Maintenance Personnel to provide technical expertise and support on maintenance projects and programs to reduce costs, avoid downtime, and increase equipment utilization.
- Works closely with accounting personnel to ensure proper coding of all expenses.
- Follows OSHA regulations for engineering design, construction, maintenance, and equipment installation to ensure compliance with safety and health standards.
- Stays updated on new equipment and techniques through professional journals, associations, vendors, training, and continuing education.
- Participates in relevant continuous improvement initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Technical Degree (BS/BA) from an approved University/College.
- One year of experience in an industrial setting.
- Basic computer skills.
Physical Abilities
- Mobility within the plant environment.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands for technical tasks.
- Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds.
- Visual ability with or without correction.
- Strong communication abilities.
Health and Safety
- Works in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
- Follows company safety rules and reports defects or absence of protective equipment to supervisors.
- Uses required personal protective equipment (PPE) including:
- Safety shoes
- Safety glasses
- Hearing protection
- Hard hat
- Respirators (requires being clean-shaven)
- Fire-retardant clothing
- Acid PPE
- Reports any contravention of safety regulations or company policies to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead, or Supervisor.
- Follows all Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines.
- Follows all environmental policies and regulations.
- Maintains a clean and safe work area.
