The Meat Cutter position at Cosentino aims to enhance the shopping experience by providing high-quality meat products efficiently, friendlily, and courteously. This role also involves smoking meats daily, managing product expiration dates, and assisting customers.

Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Meat Manager and is a non-exempt role.

Knowledge

• Essential Knowledge: Obtain a food handling permit within 14 days of employment and achieve Journeyman Meat Cutter status within 2 years. Complete ongoing training and development as outlined in the Cosentino Learning Plan.
• Non-Essential Knowledge: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Skills

• Essential Job Functions:
• Follow proper cutting and preparation techniques for display cases.
• Smoke various meats for sale.
• Monitor product expiration dates and remove damaged, un-saleable, or returnable items.
• Accurately count and record merchandise during inventory.
• Change shelf tags, price markers, and label merchandise quickly and accurately.
• Be knowledgeable about department items, procedures, and policies to answer customer questions.
• Resolve customer complaints professionally and escalate when necessary.
• Assist customers at the counter with weighing, wrapping, and pricing items.
• Implement Cosentino Customer Service Standards.
• Keep work area and department clean and safe.
• Comply with health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures.
• Operate, clean, and maintain equipment safely.
• Maintain productivity standards to achieve desired results.
• Show strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
• Show basic math and reading skills.
• Non-Essential Job Functions:
• Promote new items and specials through merchandising and displays.
• Unload, sort, and stock incoming shipments neatly.
• Closely monitor the department for security issues and report concerns.
• Support the company by completing additional tasks, assisting other stores or departments, and gaining new skills.

Physical Abilities

• Essential Abilities: Reach overhead, twist at the waist, lift up to 20 lbs., push/pull carts up to 40 lbs., stand/walk for long periods, bend, squat, crouch, and work in cold environments.
• Non-Essential Abilities: Climb ladders up to 5 feet.
