Job Details

This position formally reports to the Meat Manager. It is a non-exempt role.

Essential Knowledge

• A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
• Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.

Skills

• Familiarity with proper techniques for cutting and/or preparing items for display.
• Ability to smoke various meats.
• Knowledge of product expiration dates and proper rotation.
• Ability to identify and handle damaged, un-saleable, or returnable products.
• Accuracy in counting and recording merchandise.
• Proficiency in changing shelf tags, price markers, and labeling merchandise.
• Customer service knowledge and ability to answer questions accurately and courteously.
• Experience assisting customers at the counter, including weighing, wrapping, and pricing items.
• Ability to meet or exceed productivity standards.
• Composure in resolving customer complaints and recognizing when to involve management.
• Understanding and implementation of Casentino Customer Service Standards.
• Ability to quickly unload and sort incoming shipments and stock them appropriately.
• Knowledge of health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures relevant to the department and store.
• Basic math and reading skills necessary for the position.

Physical Abilities

• Reaching overhead with both arms up to a maximum of 72 inches, twisting at the waist, and lifting objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
• Pushing and pulling grocery items/carts to the proper locations with a peak force of 40 lbs.
• Standing and walking for long periods on hard surfaces.
• Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
• Bending, squatting, and crouching, at times all the way to floor level.
• Able to work in colder conditions of the grocery coolers and freezers.
