About the Role

Material handlers select and retrieve raw material, stack finished material on pallets, and label packaging appropriately. They move finished goods pallets to the warehouse or specified location and apply pallet wrapping as instructed. Duties may vary based on management direction.

Responsibilities

  • Verify, request, pull, and receive raw materials as specified per job jacket.
  • Prepare tape machine and labeling equipment as needed for each job.
  • Lift, stack, and arrange finished goods onto pallets as specified.
  • Prepare finished pallet for wrapping (corner boards, pallet labels, top cap).
  • Verify correct label and apply label on cartons, boxes, or pallets as required per job ticket.
  • Ensure the quality of pallet stacking and label application per quality control procedures.
  • Clean and maintain trays, rollers, and bottles needed to apply labels.
  • Fill out forms, tickets, or tags to record or request goods.
  • Tag pallets as required per the job jacket and quality procedures.
  • Move finished pallets to the warehouse for wrapping.
  • Manually seal cartons as needed.
  • Operate manual and electric pallet jacks.
  • Report all unsafe conditions and hazards to management.
  • Follow all safe work practices and safety rules.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Material Handling experience preferred.
  • 1-2 years of direct envelope experience is preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow basic verbal and written instructions.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to accurately read a ruler; basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to read and understand job jackets.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and oral communications skills.
  • Must be able to work alone and with a team.
  • May be required to become certified in operation of a forklift.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen, criminal background check, and physical exam.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to walk and stand continuously for long periods of time.
  • Talk or hear, both in person and by telephone.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to perform enhanced visual quality inspections needed to identify quality problems.
  • Ability to distinguish a full range of colors.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally, 35 lbs. regularly.
  • Ability to push/pull/leverage up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull a pallet jack (manual and electric) with loads up to 1,500 lbs.

Mental Demands

  • Regularly required to use written and oral communication skills.
  • Will interact regularly with managers and staff.
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision.

Work Environment

  • Works primarily in a fast-paced manufacturing/warehouse environment.
  • Excessive noise environment; hearing protection is required and provided.
