Marketing and Communications Coordinator
Organization YWCA Greater Los Angeles (GLA) is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. We provide direct services, empowerment programming, and advocacy to support marginalized individuals and families, especially women and girls of color, while working to challenge structural barriers to equity.
About the role
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator is responsible for creating engaging content that builds awareness, strengthens the YWCA GLA brand, and supports fundraising initiatives. This role blends marketing, communications, digital media, graphic design, photography, and event storytelling to inspire donors, volunteers, corporate partners, and the community. The ideal candidate is a creative storyteller with excellent writing skills, a strong eye for design, and a passion for capturing the people and moments that bring our mission to life.
Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Chief Development Officer, develop and implement the organization's annual marketing and communications plan.
- Manage all social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook (Meta Business Suite), Instagram, YouTube, and emerging platforms.
- Create engaging written, visual, and video content that increases awareness and engagement.
- Maintain an editorial calendar and ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.
- Write compelling stories highlighting programmatic success, donor impact, volunteers, and organizational initiatives.
- Produce and distribute email newsletters and digital communications.
- Update website content to keep information fresh, engaging, and accurate.
- Monitor analytics and provide monthly reports with recommendations for continued growth.
- Capture high-quality photography at organizational programs, community events, volunteer activities, and fundraising events.
- Create short-form videos and reels for social media that showcase the impact of YWCA programs.
- Edit photos and videos for use across social media, fundraising campaigns, presentations, and the website.
- Maintain a digital library of photos, videos, testimonials, and other marketing assets.
- Identify opportunities to tell authentic stories that inspire donors, volunteers, and community partners.
- Collaborate with the Development team to create fundraising campaigns that inspire giving.
- Design sponsorship packets, annual reports, event invitations, donor impact reports, presentations, and stewardship materials.
- Design digital and print marketing materials, including brochures, flyers, social media graphics, and event signage.
- Create branded templates for staff and organizational communications.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design, or a related field.
- Two to five years of professional experience in marketing, communications, nonprofit development, or public relations.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Experience managing multiple social media platforms professionally.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
- Experience working in a nonprofit organization.
- Strong graphic design skills using Adobe Creative Suite (preferred).
- Photography experience with the ability to capture compelling mission-driven images.
- Experience creating and editing short-form video content for Instagram Reels, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube Shorts.
- Familiarity with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp or Constant Contact.
- Experience with CRM platforms such as Virtuous etc.
- Basic knowledge of Squarespace, GiveCloud or other website content management systems.
Pay
$29-31 per hour
Location
1020 S. Olive St. Los Angeles, CA 90015. This is not a remote position.
