Market Director
About the role
The Market Director is a key area leader responsible for driving growth through advisor teams and future team leaders to serve Thrivent’s clients. This role focuses on attracting, launching (onboarding), and retaining field talent while helping them find their best role at Thrivent to grow. The Market Director serves as the connection to teaming and succession efforts in their area, strengthening brand awareness, expanding the client base, and establishing the organization as a trusted leader in the local market.
Responsibilities
- Attract and Retain Talent:
- Build and execute a plan to recruit quality talent by developing trusting relationships within broad networks and leveraging personal centers of influence (COI) to obtain referrals.
- Maintain a consistent recruiting pipeline to support market capacity growth and sales objectives through advisor referrals and community relationships.
- Collaborate with channel stakeholders to source candidates for open roles across all channels (e.g., Virtual Advice, team sales, and support roles).
- Actively manage and engage candidates through selection, licensing, and launch in partnership with matrix teams.
- Conduct selection interviews, assess candidates, and communicate Thrivent’s unique value proposition.
- Establish relationships with matrix partners to provide resources and support for developing talent.
- Develop and Launch FA Practices:
- Demonstrate mastery of the Thrivent Financial Advice Process and model/coach all elements.
- Provide consistent launch support for new financial advisors in their first year alongside matrix partners.
- Support financial advisors and teams in developing/executing business plans leveraging relationships, referrals, and communities.
- Conduct joint field work to observe, offer feedback, and assist with case consultation and delivery.
- Align with matrix partners to grow future team leaders and team members.
- Model and coach the use of Salesforce, MoneyGuidePro, Thrivent Planning Platform, and other Thrivent advice tools.
- Stay informed on best practices and changes impacting the business through local leadership and matrix partners.
- Market Management and Culture:
- Engage financial advisors by providing learning, development, and connection opportunities to build confidence, competence, and culture.
- Develop a healthy market culture, driving strong results and ensuring excellence.
- Ensure collaboration with matrix partners to support new financial advisors.
- Facilitate connections between new and experienced financial advisors for joint field work or practice experiences.
- Support and foster the culture created with the area vice president and channel stakeholders.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate budget parameters throughout the year.
- Collaborate with matrix partnership and operational leadership for area investments as needed.
- Working in the Matrix:
- Serve as a point of contact for relationships with dedicated matrix partners and establish an ongoing cadence for connections.
- Execute plans for integration and leverage within the market.
- Engage matrix partners to leverage their expertise and skills for business processes and systems.
- Work with the Community Engagement team to develop and implement advisor growth plans.
Requirements
- Four-year college degree strongly preferred.
- 5+ years in the financial services industry with experience attracting and hiring new talent.
- Demonstrated track record of attracting, selecting, and developing financial advisors.
- Experience hiring financial advisors for teams.
- Securities registrations, state insurance licenses, and appointments required in all states where financial advisors conduct business and receive commissions.
- Experience leading groups, presenting, and facilitating to drive understanding of concepts and practices for new financial advisor success.
- Demonstrated track record of solid sales results (e.g., life/health/annuities, investments) and alignment with providing holistic, purpose-based advice.
- Experience using the Thrivent Financial Advice Process, Salesforce, and other Thrivent tools, with the ability and willingness to model and promote their usage.
- Commitment to joint field work expectations.
Licensing
- FINRA Series 7, 63/65, or 66 required or obtained within 90 days.
- State insurance licensed and appointed in life, health, and variable lines of authority or attained within 90 days.
- State securities registered and insurance licensed in all states comprising the Advisor Group or aligned to specific assigned financial advisors.
- Satisfactory background check and clean compliance record.
Additional Requirements
- Flexibility to travel within the area (may include overnight), up to 50%, and conduct business during evening hours.
- Must have own vehicle for business purposes.
- Demonstrated track record of satisfactory performance.
Pay
Compensation for this full-time role is a combination of base, bonus, and incentives. The total compensation range is $145,000 - $211,000 per year, dependent on performance, geographic location, relevant experience, skills, knowledge, business needs, and market demand.
